3 Reasons You're Not Losing Any Weight!

Have you tried every trick in the book? You've cut calories, you're working out, and you're even eating all the green leaves one can possibly eat. I can also imagine you've tried all kinds of diets, maybe even been vegan a couple of times (shout out to all my vegans!). You just can't seem to get a hang of this fitfam life and you're just plain tired (I mean can’t someone just be skinny already???). Yup you're right, there's definitely something wrong.
 

Here are 3 reasons why you can't seem to shed those pounds…   

 

1) You are not eating enough

 

Weird right? Because hey aren't you trying to lose weight? obviously you shouldn't be eating a lot right? Nope! So here's the thing, skipping on your required food intake can cause signals of starvation to be sent around your body, which in turn causes the body (which believes it is in starvation mode) to retain body fat and create energy by converting previously stored muscles to energy. This is what some of us know as “slow metabolism” (oh no! Is that what that means? Yes it is! ). In layman’s terms, your body becomes stingy with the fat burning, because it doesn't know when it is getting its’ next fix (calories). This calorie deficit therefore prevents your body from losing any weight, because it is not burning any fat, but storing the fat for a rainy day (Why so smart body? Why so smart?)

 

2) You are probably really stressed

 

Ever heard of this hormone called Cortisol? This is basically a stress hormone (stress hormone, didn’t know that existed? Yes, you and many others). During periods of high stress, this hormone causes the body to store the food you eat as fat, rather than fuel for the body. So what does this mean for you? Well you know that mentality people tend to have that “God forbid I’d be called lazy” or “I’ll rest when I am dead”, this is definitely kind of, sort of wreaking havoc on your weight loss plan. This is because the more stressed you are, the more your body pumps this hormone into your system and the more fat is being stored, hence the stagnant weight loss plan or even worse, weight gain!

 

3) Your exercise routine has become a ROUTINE

 

Yes, I know what you're thinking, “A routine? How ironic is that?”. However, as I stated the body is really smart. The reason for this is because the more you exercise, the more your muscles get accustomed to your workout routine and guess what? they get extremely bored! This boredom leads to less and less calories being burnt on a daily basis. See what I mean by the body is really smart?. I don't know about you, but when I've done something over and over again, I just get so bleh and maybe even inefficient (I am sure, some of us can say the same about our jobs). So, in order for weight loss to occur, the body and its’ muscles needs to feel challenged and this can only be attained by mixing and switching up our workout plans, every now and then.

 
So if you are guilty of the above and now looking to shed those pounds? Here's a little word of advice.
 
  • EAT REGULARLY, BUT IN SMALLER PORTIONS!
  • MAKE SURE TO GET SOME SLEEP AND REST! IT'S IMPORTANT!!
  • SWITCH UP YOUR WORKOUT PLAN FROM TIME TO TIME!
