It's quite likely that on your way to work today you probably saw someone moving past you on their feet faster than you are moving in your car. No, that isn't The Flash, It's just your friendly neighborhood runner on her morning run while you were there sitting in traffic. Oh look, there’s another, and another. Seems like these days more and more people are getting their move on in these streets. You may look at them and think to yourself, “This one is stressing himself” but really getting active with a morning run is a great way to start your day. It may not be the go to work out for everyone but it's got great benefits that could get you thinking about getting your feet moving.

  • Running helps to Improve your health. By raising your levels of good cholesterol while also helping you increase lung function and use. Running also helps boost your immune system and get your blood circulating so your body gets a great pick up.

  • For women, running can actually help to lower your risk of breast cancer. It can also help reduce the risk of having a stroke and it has even proven to help reduce the risk of having a heart attack. It does this by helping the arteries retain their elasticity and strengthening the heart, significantly reducing your chances of suffering a heart attack. So running helps to prevent disease.

  • With a good healthy balanced diet, running is a great way to burn off extra calories. Helping you to lose or maintain a consistent weight.

  • In Nigeria we are very exposed to stressful situations, stress can lead to a number of health and mood problems. Running forces your body to use excess energy and hormones relieving your body of the stress.

  • Running helps to activate the release of hormones that naturally improve your mood. In fact, there are few things in the world that can better or more rapidly treat depression than exercises such as running. 

  • There are many other benefits to running. Generally, running really is an incredible beneficial exercise for the body, mind, and spirit.
