TSK’s 7 Grooming Tips for Men

Mega Ofodum
We spoke to our personal trainer focus Stanley Emodi aka TSK and found that looking good and feeling good isn't just about building muscles, you've got to remember to take care of your skin and general appearance. Skin care and personal hygiene make a huge difference when you are trying to make an impression, even at the gym.

Here are TSK's 7 recommended grooming tips for men:

Wear sunscreen

Ultra-Violet (UV) rays from the sun can cause damage to your skin and can contribute to the development of skin cancer. Over exposure to sun rays also cause accelerated aging of the skin and sunburn. The Skin Cancer Foundation implies that, even black people who generally have a rich amount of melanin in their skin, require sunscreen to provide protection from the sun’s harmful rays. Look out for creams with a SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 15.

Use Moisturisers.

Moisturising your skin and keeping your body hydrated is a great way to prevent and treat dry skin. It refines one’s skin tone and gives the body a glow that enhances your look. It can get quite hot in Nigeria’s hugely tropical climate and with heavy moisturizing creams, you’re prone to sweating a lot more. It’s important to be aware of your skin type and get a cream that will work best for you. Remember, the type of cream you use for your face may not be the same as your body cream.

Shave regularly.

If you are not part of the ‘beard gang’, there’s no need to force it - your face needs all the air it can get. Apart from giving you a clean and smart look - a good shave really helps to shape your face and keep you looking like a gentleman. When you get a clean shave, you also exfoliate your skin and stimulate the development of newer and healthier skin. Just remember to use the right shaving techniques and shaving products to suit your skin type.

Get a pedicure and manicure to boost your appearance and comfort.

You’ve probably come across someone with that extra long pinkie nail - even if you’re a technician at Slot, which may not really be the way to go. A good manicure will clean and shape your nails, treat your cuticles & keep your nails healthy and strong. During a manicure your hands will be exfoliated to remove dead skin cells, improve circulation and stimulate blood flow. A pedicure follows the same concept but it is for your feet. It’s relaxing and you would feel so much better afterwards.

Shake up your bathroom with skin care products for men.

The male and female skin have slight differences. Using a product specially designed for men would be great to improve your skin care regimen as it takes into consideration all your skin nutrient requirements.

Take note of your appearance all the time.

It’s important to continue making good impressions with people you meet. Apart from what you do, the perception people have of you begins with how you present yourself. Keep that in mind and before you leave your house, look in the mirror and ask yourself, do I look the part?

Use a good fragrance.

Sweating is normal, and when you do it’s also normal to develop a little ‘eau de you’. A good scent resonates well in the memory of any person you come across so it’s worth it to consider getting a little helper to boost your scent. Don’t walk around with a bad smell that people will remember, anti-perspirant is your friend.
