It's always great when people get together to do something positive. Especially when its an activity that trains both the body and the mind. At the Eko Fitness festival we got a taste of the variety of fitness activities available in Lagos.
From learning about the history and then actually practicing the basics of Capoeira to engaging our bodies and minds with the flexibility promoting positions of Yoga and more activities , attendants at the festival where able to enjoy while challenging themselves with the aim of improved fitness awareness.
That's not all, at the festival you could find healthy food and drinks, skin care products and great children and adults enjoying the fitness fun and games all around.
Here are some of the highlights from our time at the Eko Fitness Festival.

We had a Capoeira training session with Rotimi Thomas (@rothomas21), who took us through the history of Capoeira and its basic movements.

Did you know?

Capoeira is a martial art created in the 16th century disguised as a dance. It was used when west african slaves that where taken to brazil by Portuguese colonists rebelled against their slave masters.

We also learned the basics of Tai Chi. Obinna Emodi (@tsk_fitness) gave us a run down of the martial art that is great for relaxation and meditation as well as deadly in the right form and execution.

Did you know?

Tai chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. In fact, because tai chi is a low impact exercise, it may be especially suitable if you're an older adult who otherwise may not exercise.

There was a little dance aerobics to get our bodies moving, while grooving to the music!

Did you know?

Like other forms of exercise, dance aerobics helps burn calories and fat. The number of calories burned depends on the speed of movements, length of exercise, and the persons height and weight.

Of course we did a little Yoga, and we became one with the wind. Jemima Abu (@Jemima_abu) showed us how to calm our minds and harness our chi by going through basic yoga positions for starters.

Yoga has many health benefits, some of which include:
